I am delighted to introduce you to Limerick Educate Together Secondary School - serving the community of Castletroy and its environs. We offer a welcoming and vibrant school community that provides rigorous and engaging learning experiences that are authentic, meaningful and real-world. We are a co-educational secondary school operating under the patronage of Educate Together with a current enrolment of 620 students.
At the bedrock of our school vision are five fundamental core principles which include curiosity, creativity, diversity, respect and community. Building positive relationships lies at the heart of school life in Limerick ETSS. We strive to build relationships that are respectful, inclusive and collaborative. At the centre of building and sustaining positive relations in our school is our Restorative Practice model.
We are a progressive and forward-thinking school with a strong reputation for embedding Project-Based Learning (PBL) across the curriculum. Students engage in curriculum content through authentic projects that enable them to not only access subject content in ways that would not be possible using “traditional” teaching practices, but to do so in a universal way which makes learning accessible to all. PBL provides our students with the capacity to develop an array of transversal skills, many of which are essential to succeed in the working world including collaboration and critical thinking. Student agency is a key feature of PBL. To put it simply, student agency gives our students voice and often, choice, in how they learn.
Technology plays a pivotal role in Limerick ETSS by empowering students and teachers to innovate. Our iPads 1:1 programme provides personalised learning opportunities for our students. Our teachers are highly skilled in using the most innovative of methodologies to ensure that students’ learning is active, relevant, challenging and fun. Our school is committed to creating classroom cultures that foster the habits and attitudes of curious, confident and independent learners, qualities that will serve our students for the rest of their lives.
Select, our Apple Education Partner, supports our vision by providing a solution to embedding Apple Technology into the very ecosystem that is our school. Limerick ETSS was recognised as an Apple Distinguished School in August 2023. Apple Distinguished Schools are centres of leadership and educational excellence that demonstrate Apple’s vision for learning with technology and are some of the most innovative schools in the world.
In Limerick ETSS we offer a broad and balanced curriculum where all students have the equity of opportunity to achieve success. Our aim is to be the best that we can be, that is, to design a flexible and sustainable curriculum that provides genuine learning opportunities for all students; learning opportunities that enable students to make connections but more importantly, apply it to real world situations and replicate what happens in the real world by building on the skillsets of collaboration, critical thinking and problem-solving. Student voice and wellbeing is central to this process. Furthermore, in our school, careful consideration is given to the design of our learning spaces. Our classrooms are flexible learning environments designed to encourage students to work together, create, share and reflect on their own learning.
Our new school campus opened in September 2023 with the project costing in excess of €32 million and will cater for 1000 students. The state-of-the-art campus will be fully equipped with the best of facilities, the latest technology and sports facilities together with outdoor recreational spaces.
Our exceptional staff are highly qualified with extensive knowledge and expertise across a range of disciplines. This matched by our passion and willingness to think outside the box and take risks is what I believe makes our school the vibrant and inspiring centre for learning, teaching and assessment that is.
